Create:Fixate

Collecting Colors

Print on Print

Hey, what are you doing saturday evening?

I'll be showing my clothing line at Create:Fixate. Have you heard of it?  Create:Fixate is a beautifully curated art show that is celebrating it's 12th (!) year and I'm excited and honored to be showing there again.

It's always a great event, but this one looks especially interesting to me. Each piece in the warehouse gallery is a collaboration between a graffiti artist and an LA based contemporary fine artist. You can read all about it HERE

Plus. you can bring the kittens. Buy pre-sale tickets here to save a few bucks

You Got What I Eat.

One minute I'm making pretty girlie dresses for Mena and the next minute I'm sewing Snoop [Lion] custom chefs coats. I love it. Keeps things interesting. This commercial was really fun to style, mostly because we got to bedazzle the shit out of Larry King.  I'm still finding red rhinestones all over the floor.

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

Spotted in the South of France: A babe wearing a kaleidoscope print Mena dress.
..................................................................................................................................

It was said with much earnestness, while vacationing in Provence; that the best thing since sliced bread is unsliced bread.
How and when did sliced bread set the bar for greatness? Those gummy tasteless loaves....?

A crusty chunk ripped from a still warm baguette, spread with fig jam and topped with gooey camembert is simply perfection.

...........................................................................................................

"How provincial" we snickered as we eagerly tucked in to our bread/cheese/wine lunch for the 3rd/4th/5th day in a row. hahaha...

............................................................................................................

The only thing that made the bread tastier was acquiring it. Biking down the one lane road from our cottage to the nearby medieval village took you on a journey through lavender scented fields dotted with grazing goats in snowey white coats.

...........................................................................................................

At the Boulangerie in the sleepy village of Meyrargues I was able to use my rudimentary french. "Rustic" I like to call it.
"Je voudrais trois baguettes, un pain au chocolaté, et deux palmiers, s'il vous plais."
It is very telling that the extent of my french involves baked goods.

......................................................................................................

With my still warm purchases in a knapsack slung over my shoulder I would ride home; the hilltop castle that stands sentry over the village growing ever distant. I confess I was tempted to stop at one of the numerous bridges, swing my feet over the cool creek and start munching. No one knew what I purchased so none would be missed....but I resisted.

.....................................................................................................................

I think that's what I appreciated the most about my trip. How magical the mundane day to day activities were. I bike to the grocery store often at home but in Provence it was elevated to an absolute fairy tale.

Who needs to lug around a big camera anymore when you have an iPhone?.  Thanks for sharing my trip with me. instagram at misty_menaberry ~XOXO

I actually made it to the beach this Summer.

It's Autumn. I know this because a homeless man in Brentwood told me it was so.  He was hurling out this unsolicited nugget of truth as he were rushing by; grinning from ear to ear. He threw this knowledge at us and without slowing his pace he whipped his head around to make sure this joyful news registered upon its audience. Just this side of a top hat, a twinkle in his eye and then this town crier was gone. Off to alert the rest of the village and plow through piles of crisp autumn leaves I can only imagine.

Man, Brentwood has the best bums.

This skirt made it to the beach this summer on the hips of Katherine Chang of Love and Ace.

See the post here and find the skirt here.

This adorable sand pig made it to Rosie's dog beach

...and this girl (thumbs pointed at me) got to swim in the mediterranean:

That was an epic summer but apparently Autumn has some pretty good things in store for us as well.

Mena and Mimosas

Two things:

#1. Ending a sentence with 'but not in a creepy way' can often have the opposite intended effect.

#2. Champagne is an essential part of sunday afternoons.

I don't know where the first one fits in, but champagne will be had this Sunday and you're invited. It's time for another Mena trunk show. I've been working on loads of pretty new things and I'd love to share it with you. Please join me and the lovely ladies of Hamptons Heartbreak this sunday from 2-6. Come and have a mimosa or two or three and play dress up. I might even bake some sweet treats to share.

To entice you I'll leave you with pictures from last years trunk show:

Love And Ace, and Paris

I was sipping on a dreamy mug of cafe au lait at a sidewalk bistro when the very cute boy across the table invited me to celebrate his birthday with him in Provence. I said "Hell yes."Because really you can waste so much time by over thinking things.  He said, "Did we just make plans for five months from now?  I'm OK with that." Now here we are months later; plane tickets purchased, trip expanded from 10 days to 3 glorious weeks and the boy across the table just keeps getting cuter and cuter. I'm definitely OK with that.

And so the countdown begins. 38 days until Paris and I can hardly contain myself. Question: Has anyone ever been to Morocco? We'll be in Marrakesh for four days at the end of the trip. Do you have any pointers/favorite places/awesome experiences? Do tell!

The real reason I'm here, other than to outright brag about my upcoming vacation is this:

My lace blouse was featured on the Love and Ace blog. Leather and lace. Check out the rest of the post and pics here.

Also, the very lovely Katherine did an interview with me last month and I'm a little behind in posting it. You can check that one out here :-)

Voyez-vous plus tard des chatons!!

California Dreaming

Is it Summer yet?

You're not allowed to complain about the weather when you live in Los Angeles, especially not to those non-natives who entered this cold dark world swaddled in Gor-tex, destined to toddle about feet encased in Baby's First snow shoes. I imagine them wearing tiny white ear muffs. I mean, of course, anyone who grew up in the Mid West.

I made that mistake once at a dinner party. Lamenting on the weather while forgetting my audience's origins I shortly found myself retreating from their [need it be said: pale?] wagging fingers; ashamedly pulling my featherweight cardigan closer.

I get it. For example, this video was shot on a gorgeous 80 degree day in mid November. That's what we have to deal with in Los Angeles. Wah Wah. I had to watch this to remind myself how lucky I was during last months stretch of frigid 60 degree days.

I had the pleasure of styling all the extras on this shoot. Yes, the housekeeping staff at the Chateau Marmont all look like models. Sky high leopard print heels are mandatory uniform. No. No they are not. Watch out for the Jake Ryan look-a-like in the elevator.  Holy Cow that was a fun day. Styling commercial shoots is a whole lot of "Hurry up and wait" so there was a lot of goofing off, raiding of craft services, taking in the penthouse view and hanging out with the chicest orange cat in all of California. Terry Richardson wasn't nearly as creep-tastic as I had read about but even that couldn't ruin my day.

Anyways, today was a great day and it got me thinking about summer, tan lines, and lazy days by the pool. Hope you all had a great weekend too.

Yes. I'm just getting around to posting this.... a mere 4 months later.
XO-M
